Bob Burnquist continued to set the bar during the X Games Big Air event, claiming the highest combined first place score of 93.17 to claim back-to-back gold. Competitors’ were divided into two portions, a best gap-trick score and a best full-run score for a combined total score out of 100.
“Everyone was going for it so I might as well go for it myself,” said Burnquist in a post race interview. “Every month there is new progression in the sport and it is exciting to be a part of.”
Burnquist now equals BMX legend Dave Mirra with most X Games medals ever.
16-year old Mitchie Brusco made X Games history as well, landing the first-ever 1080 during X Games Big Air competition. “I figured there was no better place than here; all the big stuff goes down at X Games,” said Brusco.
“We’re all trying to beat each other and go for gold but when someone lands something we’re all happy for each other,” said Brusco. “We all push each other to our next level and when we hit that level there is no better feeling.”
