Make it Five Gold Medals in BMX Park for Daniel Dhers.
After an injury riddled season, Dhers is back in familiar territory on top of the podium where he shared it with Scotty Cranmer and Daniel Sandoval.
“I gave it everything I had,” Dhers said. “The level of riding is so amazing. I didn’t know how many tricks I could pack into one but you take nothing and give everything.”
After posting the highest scores of the day to win in a very comfortable margin, the relief on Dhers’ face after the struggles he has had all season told the story.
“I’ve had this dream run in my head for a while now, and this was the perfect chance for me to throw it out there. I started it all off with the no-handed 720 and then just started building on it from there. It’s really good to win gold at X Games again after what happened earlier this year at the other two events.”
At the Fröttmaring, Liam Doran held off Ken Block around the last corner to clinch a win at the Ford RallyCross Race One final. The race was run as a makeup for the X Games Barcelona Ford RallyCross event that had previously been cancelled due to rain, ironically Race One was raced in the mud and rain.
Doran won the race with a flat driver’s side rear tire on a course that was composed of tarmac, gravel and dirt which provided for better drainage and allowing the race to continue despite the rain. This will be Doran’s second gold medal in Rally at the X Games.
“I don’t know what to say really. I had a puncture for half the race and I thought I was going to be last — I thought they were going to hit me — but all I kept hearing on the radio was ‘You’ve got a good gap, keep on going, you’ve got to punch it, just keep on pushing.’ I might not seem that excited but it hasn’t sunk in yet.”
