Black Pine Sports – Grizzly Sleeping Bags

Outdoor Retailer Show Winter Market 2014 – Black Pine Sports

Utah based company Black Pine Sports allows you to take the comforts of home when you travel or spend the time camping in Mother Nature.

If you are tired of packing your body into a tight sleeping bag and feeling trapped then look to Black Pine Sports and their Grizzly Sleeping Bag product line. Completely made here in Utah, the Grizzly Sleeping Bag makes your nights rest while camping a home away from home.

I recently spent the weekend using the Grizzly 2person -25 degree rated bag. The size and width of the bag (65” wide/90” long) made sleeping naturally feasible. Whether you are sharing the bag with someone else as designed or selfishly using it all for yourself the Grizzly bag allows you to sleep in any position you feel comfortable without the worry of not staying warm throughout the night.

The Grizzly sleeping bag is filled with Black Pine’s own Hyperloft. The hyperloft fill behaves like super down fibers, but the hyperloft retains warmth even if the bag gets wet. If you are camping and the morning dew settles onto the bag the canvas outer layer and the hyperloft interior allow you to stay dry and warm.

The canvas shell is constructed of cotton canvas and is incredibly durable. While its not rip/tear proof, the stitching is very tight together and durable and can withstand a rugged trip in the woods. The dry time of the cotton canvas is fairly quick for a cotton-based material. Water was sprayed over the bag to test the warmth of the wet bag and dry time, and while the two layer construction kept the water from reaching the inside of the bag, the dry time was less than 14 minutes in above freeing temperatures.

For the cold nights, the plush flannel lining makes those nights very comfortable.  The flannel lining is very soft and imitates the feeling of sleeping under a down duvet.

Another feature of the Grizzly bag is the oversized wind baffle around the heavy-duty zippers. Not many sleeping bags feature a wind baffle at all, but the Grizzly bag features 3, two at the zippers and one around the next that prevents any draft out and keeps the heat in.

While the Grizzly bag is not made for long backpacking trips where weight is a factor (19.7 pounds for the 2person bag), this bag packs into a small manageable stuff sack that will make for great car camping or family camping bag.
