With less than thirty days until the Sochi 2014 Olympic games begin, Deer Valley once again hosts the FIS Freestyle World Cup Moguls an Aerials competition.

“The world cup is a special event for all of us here in Deer Valley”, said Bob Wheaton, President Deer Valley. “With this being an Olympic year, the enthusiasm the athletes have is infectious. The most rewarding and encouraging part of this event is for all of us to be around the athletes and to experience passion first hand.

As the United States makes their final picks on the athletes who will compete in Russia, the team looks to improve on the success they experienced in Vancouver in 2010. 17 US Ski athletes brought home 21 medals, and the team looks poised to bring home even more this year.

“Deer Valley, and this competition helps with our goal to grow and make our athletes and sport better”, said Bill Marolt, President and CEO USSA. “Our freestyle program is a cor

nerstone to the US Ski team. This is an exciting year, an Olympic year.”

When asked about the added pressure to perform for the home U.S. crowds, Olympic and World Champion Hannah Kearney, laughed off the pressure.

“Nothing is different pressure wise even in an Olympic year,” said Kearney. “You still have to ski to win. Having been on this stage before definitely helps, but unless you ski your best whether is a qualifier on the Olympics themselves, you still have to ski to win.”

Four-time World Cup winner Heather McPhie was all smiles coming to Deer Valley to compete this weekend.

“The crowds here are amazing,” said McPhie. “This course is so challenging but to look down and see the flags waving and hear the crowds cheer for you is unbelievable. It is such an honor to represent the country. The power of what you represent can be so overwhelming.”
