When she needed it the most on her final run, Jamie Anderson’s calm zen prevailed as she secured the first ever Ladies’ Snowboard Slopestyle Gold completing a Team USA Snowboarding sweep of the slopestyle gold.

One day after Sage Kotsenburg surprised the many in the snowboard community after his win, prohibitive favorite Jamie Anderson did exactly what she was expected to do, go big and get the gold.

“I was really just trying to stay calm and kind of reserve my energy,” Anderson said. “It was a lot of stress up there and even though it’s just another competition, the stage and the outreach that this event connects to is out of control.”

Adding to the history off the inaugural event was Jenny Jones who took bronze to win Britain’s first medal in any snow sport.

“There are no words to describe this moment for me,” Jones said. “I grew up learning to ride on the ground, I know we don’t have any mountains. But I think there’s a growing number of snowboarders from England. To be here to represent my country and to showcase where we are as a group of riders, especially the female riders in this event, there is nothing greater.”

Ladies’ Snowboard Slopestyle took another step forward in progression in the sport as several tricks, including a Cab 900 from Torah Bright (AUS) and a Frontside 1080 from Sina Candrian (SUI), were thrown for the first time in the female competition at the Olympics.

“I think most of us have been thinking about this for a few years,” Anderson said. “To just have that moment come so quick and really knowing this is your moment, you just want to shine and do your best and show the world what a fun sport snowboarding is.”
