Press Release – Friday, June 26, 2015 (Los Angeles, CA) – This week, ESPN announced the nominees for the 2015 ESPYS Presented by Capital One. Nitro Circus’s Josh Sheehan, who earlier this year landed the world’s first triple backflip on a motorbike, is included in the Best Male Action Sports Athlete and Best Play categories.Best Male Action Sports Athlete honors the rider who made the biggest impact in extreme sports over the past year, and features the finest in motocross, freestyle motocross, skate and snowmobile. In Best Play, Sheehan’s landmark triple backflip will square off against Malcolm Butler, whose game-changing interception sealed victory in Super Bowl XLIX for the New England Patriots. Other big names in the tournament-style brackets include NBA champion Stephen Curry, soccer icon Lionel Messi and more.
Josh Sheehan said, “This is a huge honor. To be mentioned with some of the biggest names in sport is incredible. It also shows the importance of going after something you believe in, no matter how many people tell you it can’t be done. While there is definitely risk, this is a tremendous reward.”
In April, Sheehan rocked the action sports world when he became the first person to ever land a triple backflip on a motorbike. The landmark world’s first, previously considered impossible, raised the bar for the entire sport, and drew global media coverage.
