X Games returns to Austin, Texas this week. Before the competition begins Thursday, the action sports community will come together to kick off the X Games with a one-of-a-kind charity event featuring a screening of “Angry Sky,” part of ESPN Films’ award-winning 30 for 30 documentary series, with proceeds of the event benefiting the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund at The V Foundation as well as the Central Texas Red Cross.
The film “Angry Sky” documents truck-driver Nick Piantanida discovered skydiving. Piantanida set out to break the world record for the highest parachute jump by taking a helium balloon to the edge of space. Over the course of a year, his dream to launch the first civilian space program drove him to obsession. Directed by Jeff Tremaine and Executive Produced by John Dahl, Mat Hoffman and Connor Schell. “Angry Sky” will make its television debut July 30 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Legendary members of the BMX community Mat Hoffman and Ryan Nyquist and multi sport athlete Travis Pastrana will be in attendance showing their support and helping to raise funds.
The kick off will take place at The Highball where guests will have the unique opportunity to mix and mingle with the X Games athletes and have a chance to win VIP passes to X Games Austin and other prizes.
